SAL Update and a XS Buffet!

Here is my progress on Salem Sisters as of today, over half way done! Yay! Unfortunately, I have to stop because I am out of VC deep purple. Slightly aggravating because I have been on a roll. But, it will give me time to finish my birthday club exchange-so it's all good. I had to break out the q-snaps on this one as the material was so soft, it was driving me nuts. Have you ever had fabric to do that?

Below is a picture of my new antique buffet! Of course, I don't have a dining room to put this in. So, what am I going to use this gorgeous piece of furniture for? I will give you one guess. Do you even really need to guess? LOL Alright, I will stop teasing, it's to store my cross stitch in. I call it my cross stitch buffet. I don't know what year it was made in. It is all wood, with deep drawers and it had four trays in the middle that would typically hold silverware, but I am going to put my threads there. I will take pictures when it is all set up like I want it to be. They just don't make furniture like they used to. The best thing was I got it on sale and it a Christmas gift from my Mom. Do you think she loves me? LOL

Now, on an unhappy note, my cats have been on it and I have a couple of scratches on it. I had it less than 24 hours before this happened. I know cats climb on furniture, I don't usually have a problem with that. But, I would like to keep them off this. Does anyone who owns cats have a suggestion for this? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Speaking of cats, if you look at the bottom of the picture you will see my culprit! Okay, now that I have talked your ears off, so I am going. Thanks for all your comments on my last finish. Much appreciated. Have a great week and happy stitching!

Oh, I love Salem Sisters. If I had the fiber I'd send it to you so I could see the finished project.

Lovely buffet. And have you ever given me a idea. I'll start cleaning mine out...who know when! Hehe.

The buffet is beautiful!! I just love these old pieces of furniture. As for the cute kitty with the sharp claws... I recommend using a plant spray, works every time with us!!

Oh, I like your Salem piece! Very neat.

I know how you feel about the buffet getting scratched. We bought brand-new baby furniture, and of course the cat had to get in/on it, and scratched it up pretty well. No idea about how to prevent that, other than putting something sticky on top, or maybe aluminum foil.

Oooh, what a lovely buffet. I think it works much better as a cross stitch buffet than a dining room buffet.
Sorry, I have no experience with cats, other than that the neighbourhood kitties seem to think my garden is a pubic kitty toilet.
Love Salem Sisters!

Salem sisters coming along nicely. Nice xs buffet :)

Harmien's suggestion (for kitty proofing) sounds good. You could also try something that the cats hate the smell of - this time of year, a bowl filled with cloved oranges would work great and would look lovely with that gorgeous buffet. ;)

Your Salem Sisters looks great!!

Your Salem sisters is looking great and that cross stitch buffet is just gorgeous! I can't wait to see pics of it with all your stash in there.

You know, I think I must have the strangest cat in the world because she never goes on the furniture or kitchen worktops. She will sit on a chair, the sofa or the bed but that's it. She was 6 months old when I got her and into everything. I think I told her off once for the kitchen tops and she never did it again. lol Good luck in keeping yours off the buffet. Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions for you as to how to do it.

Salem sisters looks great! Your mom has good taste, what a thoughtful, wonderful gift. I would also suggest something citrus (Cookie always backs away from) or double sided tape somehow, not directly on the wood of course.

Just thought of a dresser scarf/table runner that is strongly scented, or has the tape on it :)

Salem Sisters looks great! I use waterbottles on my kitties when they are doing something that is a no-no.

Hi! Sharon, SS is looking great. I only put in a couple of words in last week, but plan on doing more tomorrow.
The buffet is a neat idea for xs, I might have to steal that idea, lol.
My cat dont get on the furniture, becuz I would spritz her with a waterbottle.
My friend uses double sided tape for climbing and scratching on the couches.

The crow piece is very neat!! Gorgeous stitching.

And what a lovely piece of furniture, I also have a dresser right when you walk inside the living room where i store my cross stitch stash, mostly patterns, and those that had just arrived in the mail. It used to be hubby's stuff but he got evicted from it. LOL

p.s. deleted my original comment because of typos. It really doesn't help much when you get a new secretary (my 2 yr old) hehe

have a lovely day and enjoy your cross stitch buffet thingy..=0)

Salem Sisters looks great! You are really zooming right along with that one.

Your doing a great job on Salem Sister's. I think your mom loves you very much. What a pretty antique buffet. What an awesome idea for storage. Now I don't feel so alone knowing you have sneaky cats like we do.

We haven't had much of a problem with our kitty jumping onto tables or furniture. If he does, we've always just picked him off, placed him on the floor and said "no" very sternly. We usually find him under the furniture, as in your pic! :D

Congrats on acquiring such a stylish organizational piece of furniture for your stitching goodies!

Just love old world furniture & yours is beautiful. Loking for something similar to fit in the alcove of my bedroom for my stash.

Love the stitching buffet. My Cats learned early on what they can and can't get up on. Just be strick with the kitty and each time you catch it on this tell it no bad kitty. That's about all I can tell ya. Kitty's are like women they have minds of there own. The SAL is looking good.

Salem Sisters looks great, sorry you ran out of floss, but like you said, you had plenty of other things to work on.

Your buffet is just gorgeous. I love that it’s your cross stitch buffet, you better fill that right up! :D

Love the cross stitch and new buffet. To train cats to stay off my nice furniture I usually use a squirt bottle. I know it sounds mean but they learn fast. There is this stuff, the name does not come to mind, but you rub it over the scratches and they disappear. It comes in a stick and you can get it at any store like Target or Walmart.

Beautiful buffet. I'm envious of such a large place to store xs stuff. Good luck on keeping your cat off of it. I cannot keep mine off of furniture but I have trained them not to go on kitchen counters. I've done this through ringing a cow bell every time they get on it. It didn't take long tee hee!

Hi Sharon:

Salem Sisters is just beautiful!! Your stitching is just really so perfect on it! I also love your new buffet! Oh how I wish I had something pretty like that to put my cross stitch in!! I think it is much better being used for that anyhow! I never have a use for fancy silver and things anyhow and what a nice way to store your cross stitch!! Your kitty is still just sooooooo cute!! I am such an animal lover anyhow!! Debby :)

SS loks great. And what a great buffet. I would say alu foil as well for the cats but you know what they're like. Unstoppable. xx

The buffet, what I would call a side board, is beautiful! I love the fabric & colours of the Salem Sisters. You are really zooming along with your stitching at the moment.

Salem sisters looks fab Sharon, hope you get your thread soon. Lovely photo of your new buffet and so cute with the kitty underneath :) I have claw marks all over my bedroom dresser where one of mine jumps onto the wardrobe to get to the window. (Luckily my furniture is just cheap flatpack!)

Salim Sisters is looking wonderful, you've made great headway. Love your buffet too, it will work perfect for your crossstitch. Sorry about the scratches, but don't have any suggestions as my cats seem to get on everything too.

Salem Sisters is amazing! I don't have any ideas for your cat... but if you find something that works, let us know!

Salem Sisters looks fantastic! Your buffet is beautiful too. My cats won't jump up on something if they don't think there's room for them. So, if there's a way to put things at the edges, so from the floor (where I assume your cat is jumping from), it will look like there's no empty space up there. Just maybe don't put something breakable.

That's a beautiful buffet..WOW!!
I love the Salem Sisters piece :)

Gorgeous buffet! I love to see old pieces used in a new and different way. Your idea for a cross stitch buffet sounds delish! :o) Hope you are able to redirect the kitties.

What a beautiufl way to store your stash.

I'm usually an in hand stitcher but yes I've had fabric so soft that I've had to break out the Q's

I got the spray at Petsmart that is supposed to keep cats off furniture and things. I sprayed it and what happened? You guessed it - right up on the chair a second later. Squirt guns work for mine and I noticed the other day that he hates the smell of bananas; some kind of banana something on the buffet might work.

Take a look over Maia kitchen worktops. They're a great alternative to granite and can be re-sanded over time...
