A WIP and a question...

Good morning friends. I am currently stitching on Where Flowers Bloom from a Schoolgirl's Work book. But, alas I am not loving these colors specifically the blue. I am using the recommended colors of which the blue is called Dublin Bay by Crescent. However, the trees/leaves are this same color with the petals being the same color as the birds on the house. Of course the picture looks nothing like this in the book. I even have emailed Alma of Blackbird to inquire if this was the correct color (which I hope she won't take the wrong way) I haven't heard back yet. What do you think? Is there anyone stitching this particular piece? If you were stitching this piece would you change the colors? Suggestions would be welcomed!

My friend bought me the first design in the AoTH series and the colours are nothing like the picture. I looked on lots of wips and noticed they were all different. It must be the variegated hand dyed thread. I suppose in that respect it would make every piece unique. x

I *love* BBD patterns ... but sometimes the model and the actual floss called for are so different that it just makes me want to scream. I know that dyelots can differ wildly, but that doesn't make it any easier when you're sitting there with two different greens that look absolutely identical (which was my problem) or something along those lines. I'd say, pull something from your stash that looks like the model and call it good. ;)

I haven't stitched too many BBD patterns but the ones I have stitched I have chosen my own colors. I have noticed (on the photo of their models) that the colors they use are very subdued so if this is the look that you are going for then the colors you have so far look fine to me.

When I did Autumn Bouquet by BBD I found that the colours chosen were identical when I bought them even though they were different colours they were the exact same shade. It was quite frustrating. I even went to my LNS and picked up more and they were still almost identical. I think its just the nature of overdyed threads. If I did it again, I would definitely replace it with something else. Maybe search through your stash and see what you can find to replace it.

Nice start Sharon :o) I'm not sure what to tell you. Like Carolyn said, find a color you like and go with it!

I've found so many designs where the floss looks nothing like the photo on the chart. In that case I've just gone ahead and substituted with whatever I think will work. Good luck, it's such a pretty design!

I don't know how the picture looks. But I personally like the colours the way they are. Looks very peaceful.

I think the color is pretty! Have you heard back? I would go with whatever you like though :)

?? I don't have the chart OR that thread, so I can't help. I would go with what Barbara said, though. When I was stitching Clara Ellen on AotH (I am not sure if that is the correct name of the block...), the color on the house was verrrry different from what the color pic looked like. My skein was brown--their model pic was red. I would go with a green that you know BBD uses, like GAST Endive or Dried Thyme. See what you like best. Sorry I'm not able to help!

I would go with your own colour. I found on Snow Garden that some of my skeins were very close so just picked another one. It looks very pretty so far though:)

Hi Sharon....
I just posted pictures of my latest project and would love for you (and/or those who follow you) to take a peek at my project here.

I changed the flesh colors on this project and now feel more confident doing so on more of my cross stitch projects. Looking for African American or African charts is a fulltime job (as you probably know) and am working on creating some using software I have purchased (PCStitch) to do it.

I've been your follower for a while and admire your work! I look forward to your next post....

I haven't seen the pattern either but I personally don't like that blue. I would say pull something from your stash and go with it too; even if it's not "their" called for color. I change mine all the time to suit what I like or what I'm stitching it for.
